One of the ideas behind Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is to show the energy in Lagos and the just concluded 2018 edition of the event which has put Lagos in the global marathon map, portrayed that indeed as it was evidently fused with sports and entertainment.
It was musically powered with performances from Mr Real, Sound Sultan, Seyi Shay Tekno and Tiwa Savage. The ‘Legbegbe’ singer Mr Real brewed up participants minds into the thrilling feel lined up by the organisers ─ Access Bank, the headline sponsors and Lagos State Government in partnership with 7up Plc, Bet9ja, GAC Motors, Eko Atlantic and others.
Fabled Sound Sultan confirmed Mr Real’s brewing with his gallant rendition that furthered the thrilling feel.
Kenya-born French athlete Abraham Kiprotich, a long distance runner who won the 42 kilometers race after 2:15:10 emerged the winner of the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
He took home the $50,000 prize.
While the women edition of the competition was won by Alemenesh Herpha Guta completed the race after 2:38:36.
The race started at the National Stadium, Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island. Participants in the competition paid absolutely no mind to the downpour in most parts of Lagos and came out in their numbers.
Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, set a target for Nigeria athletes.
“We want to get it to the Gold level, in the next two years,” he said.
“We’re tired of giving these trophies to the East Africans. We will be committing resources to training our Nigerian athletes so they can win the marathon. ”
The competition which has had two previous editions has been dominated by East Africans.
Delectable Seyi Shay very beautiful singer that dazzles so well with her dance turned back on the fuse with her performance that continued the thrilling feel and there was no other venue more worthy of this event’s location than the Eko Atlantic City ─ participants enjoyed it because they were in the right environment.
We are well aware of the thrilling feel her songs give but the queen of afro-pop Tiwa Savage thrilled participants with a topnotch performance that was without doubt the peak of the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. She jumpstarted very tired athletes into dancing with the thrilling feel from her performance of class and a realisation came to me: never has music been this evident in the history of marathon race… my esteemed readers, correct me if I am wrong.
